Why iTherapy exists
I started iTherapy after years working in the mental health space — and seeing too many people hit the same barriers when they were already doing their best to cope.
For many New Zealanders, getting support can feel harder than it needs to be. Time. Cost. The stress of even starting. iTherapy exists to reduce that friction — and make the first step feel simple, human, and doable.

The barriers I kept seeing
People weren’t avoiding support because they didn’t want to change — they were often blocked by practical barriers.
Time: finding appointments that fit real life
Cost: uncertainty about affordability and value
Stress: not knowing where to start, or what to expect
Stigma: fear of judgement or feeling “weak” for reaching out
Accessibility: the effort of getting to an appointment when you’re already stretched
Fit: small local networks can limit choice — and it’s not always easy to find “your person”
A short message on stigma and barriers — and why iTherapy was created
A more stress-free way to start
“While working in the mental health field for a number of years, I couldn’t help notice some limitations and barriers people were experiencing when looking for and engaging in a mental health service. The big ones were time and cost. Here at iTherapy our goal is to minimise these potential barriers and make the whole process as stress free as possible.”
— Gareth, Founder of iTherapy
